Vivaldi is recognised as one of the greatest and most prolific composers of the Baroque period, his most famous composition being the innovative "Four Seasons". The conception of "Four Seasons" was revolutionary for those years, as he expressed in his music elements of nature such as birds singing, storms, flowing creeks. In his music, Vivaldi also brightened the rhythmic structure and looked for innovative contrasts and melodies.
Vivaldi was born and lived in Venice but became very popular throughout Europe. At an early age he was taught the violin by his father who was a barber, before becoming a professional violinist.
Although Vivaldi was suffering from health problems since he was a child, most probably asthma, he continued playing the violin and composing.
Vivaldi became very successful in early life, but this did not last until the end. Later in his life, he became out of mode, overshadowed by the younger musicians, and finally died impoverished due to lack of financial support. His works remained in obscurity for hundreds of years until the 1920s when his private collections of original scores came into light and his name became widely known.
