Italian pianist and composer, having composed the scores of a number of films and television productions, including "The Intouchables", "This is England", "I am still here" and "Acquario". He is today one of the most successful living classical artists, with his concerts immediately selling off and his albums being on top of the classical music charts.
He was introduced to music at a very young age, as his mother was playing the piano to him as a child, and then he started composing as a teenager, mainly for folk guitar, and went on to study composition at the Conservatory of Milan. He began his career as a classical composer, with his music being performed at venues such as La Scala Milan and the Lincoln Center. Later, he incorporated in his music other genres such as pop, rock and folk music. A turning point in his career was the release in 1996 of his first collection of solo performances, entitled "Le Onde". Other albums followed, including "I Giorni" which also received wide acclaim, while he continued to compose music for films and started to participate in concerts. In his 2009 album "Nightbook", he incorporated synthesised sounds in his music, slightly changing his style. In 2019, Einaudi announced an ambitious project: a series of albums, inspired by a walk in the Italian Alps in the winter, were released over seven months, one album every month.
Although taught by the avant-garde Italian composer Luciano Berio, Einaudi's music style is very different from his teacher's; it is minimalistic and combines repeating cycles of broken chords in the bass, with a simple, pretty melody in the treble. His music which is ambient, contemplative, soothing and minimalistic, has won many hearts around the world. And although it challenges the strict notion of "classical music" and has received some criticism regarding its classification as "classical music", it is undoubtedly based on the same principles and structures as classical music, it is melodic, consonant and most importantly extremely popular.
