The "Dolly suite" is a collection of six light and melodic pieces for piano duet composed by Fauré. In his 40s, the married Fauré engaged in a relationship with Emma Bardac (who later became Debussy's second wife). The "Dolly suite" was dedicated to Emma's daughter, nicknamed "Dolly". Dolly and her family are at the centre of this piece which marks the birthday and other events in the life of the young girl. "Berceuse" ("The cradle") is the first and best-known part of the "Dolly suite" and is a sweet, nursery-like, child friendly melody composed for Dolly's first birthday. It's a music which brings back beautiful, long-forgotten memories from childhood.
