"Danzón no 2"

Composer

Arturo Marquez

Period

Modern

Instruments

Orchestra

"Danzón No 2" is the most famous of Marquez's 8 "danzónes" and is an orchestral composition with the rhythm and style of Latin American music.

The piece begins quietly with dreamy and dancing mood. As music develops, there are more and more instruments entering the music scene, changing the themes and creating a variety of moods, with the same rhythm and melody (typical of Mexican music) being the driving force of all these changes.

The style is based on a Cuban dance called "danzón", which is considered the national dance of Cuba. Despite being an orchestral work, "Danzón No 2" urges you to get up and dance and join the maestro who is most probably having the fun of his life while conducting this piece!
