Completed in 1846-47, this waltz is a dance with trio, among the many waltzes that Chopin composed and which, according to Schumann, are "waltzes for souls much more than waltzes for bodies". There is no better example to this than this composition which is a sweet but also nostalgic and melancholic melody, although at moments it becomes brighter and happier. Chopin was probably longing for something or someone when he was writing this music and this could be a way for the listener to understand the spirit of the music. A suggested title for this waltz: "The longing waltz".
